PRIVACY IN BIOTECHNOLOGY:

One of the biggest topics within the field revolves around data and medical history privacy. One of the first things that came to mind when I was thinking of "privacy" was the idea of being watched; both an eyeball and a video camera are such strong visual elements, I knew I wanted to include them. So – using my scientist partner as a reference, holding one of the beakers we have lying around the apartment – I thought it would be fun to use the beaker as a magnifying glass to highlight the idea of being observed.

ACCESS WITHIN BIOTECH:

When brainstorming ideas with the reporter, she mentioned that "barriers to entry for poor people or POC to access certain health care resources." are a big thing that she reports on. One of my ideas for this idea – while trying not to create a graphic that was too pointed or depressing, which is important to keep in mind for the particular news work that I contribute to – was "gatekeeping" or this idea of V.I.P. access.
